Meet the GVSU Flute Studio!


Hailey Briggs is a fourth year music education major and psychology minor from Grand Rapids, MI. This is her 12th year playing the flute and she's been involved in various ensembles including concert bands and marching bands. She's also the uniform manager for the Laker Marching Band, as well as her 4th year of teaching in the MCBA circuit. When Hailey is not playing the flute you can find her being around the people she loves, doing one of her hobbies, or hanging out with her two cats Millie and Gerogie.

Ashlynn Gustafson is a first-year music minor from Upper Michigan. She's been in her school band since 5th grade and has participated in solo and ensemble twice with a flute/tenor sax duet, and has taken 10 years of piano. When Ashlynn isn't practicing or listening to music she can be found painting, reading, playing video games, or watching tv with her cat ButterCup.

Julia Meyer is a freshman double major in Biochemistry and Music with performance honors. She has been playing flute for almost 10 years and piccolo for a little over a year, and she loves performing with the GVSU Orchestra and Wind Symphony! When she isn’t playing flute or studying for a chemistry exam, she loves hiking, listening to music, writing calligraphy, and hanging out with her cat and dog.

Vivian Lundskow is a freshman studying theatre and hopefully soon a music minor. She has been playing the flute for 7 years. In that time, she's been in multiple music ensembles through school and also went to solo and ensemble last year with a flute/oboe duet. Outside of music, they also enjoy performing in theatre productions, knitting, crocheting, and hanging out with friends.

Grace Morrison is a third year Music Education major with performance honors. She has been playing flute since 5th grade, and has been involved in the El Paso, Waco, and Grand Rapids Youth Symphony Orchestras. Since coming to Grand Valley, she has performed with various ensembles including the Whirlwind Quintet, Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and the amazing New Music Ensemble. When she isn't in the music building, Grace enjoys spending time with friends, getting coffee, making food, and singing loudly in her car.

Heavyn Musgrave is a first year music education major from Howard City, MI. Throughout high school she has been involved in numerous honors bands, ensembles ranging from choir to symphonic band, and has played trombone in jazz band. Along with this, Heavyn has also been a recipient of the John Philip Sousa award and was nominated as a Scholar Instrumentalist from her senior year state solo & ensemble. When Heavyn is not in the Performing Arts Center, you can find her cooking or hanging out with her cat, Espresso.

Kaiya VanDenBerg is a first-year student majoring in environmental and sustainability studies. This is their eighth year playing the flute and has performed at Michigan All-State twice. They have also been involved in marching band. When Kaiya is not playing the flute, they are hanging out with friends, family, or playing video games.
