Dr. Thompson’s Flute Studio

Why Take Private Lessons?

Whether you are a beginner, an advanced player hoping to pursue flute playing as a profession, or somewhere in between, flute lessons are an excellent idea! Students who take private lessons generally improve their playing at a significantly faster rate than those who do not. I have been teaching for ten years, and flute students in my studio receive a thorough grounding in all fundamentals, including improvements in their tone quality, breath control, technique, posture, rhythm, and articulation. Students have the opportunity to learn more advanced techniques, including vibrato and double tonguing, and work on advanced solo repertoire. Through private lessons, flutists learn how to practice efficiently and prepare for auditions, solo & ensemble contests, studio recitals, and other performances.

Even more importantly, private lessons allow students to develop a deeper connection with and love for the best instrument of all, the flute! Lessons are an opportunity to explore the incredible wealth of music of different styles available for flutists. Finally, members of my studio have opportunities to play together in flute choirs, duets, and other small ensembles, creating bonds with other people who are passionate about the flute!

Online Lessons

In addition to in-person lessons, I also teach flute students online! You can schedule a one-time lesson with me or enroll in regular weekly online lessons. Please contact me for more information about rates and how virtual flute lessons work!
